Something was about to happen to me. Something unthinkable. Something…impossible.
Everything started when I touched that feather. It was a mix between pure, snow white, and a light vanilla cream. It looked more like a wing than a feather, but that didn't really matter. The feathers on the ends were changing from that mixture of color to a faint sky blue. It was…beautiful. When I first spotted it, just lying on the ground in the forest…I couldn't take my eyes off of it. It's like it was…beckoning me, begging me to take it, to feel it...to keep it. When I picked it up, the first thing I noticed was that it felt like…fur. The feathers were so soft, that if you made a pillow, and filled it with them, you could sleep even if you were not tired whatsoever. I smiled, and ran the feather against my face, delighting in the soft sensation of the furry feather. I decided to keep it in my hand, as I began the return home. Everything was fine…
….and then it happened.
I felt something...move within my hand…and then my entire body. I fell to my knees, confused as to what had happened, when I heard a tiny snap. I looked around, trying to find the source of the sound, when it happened again. I didn't see anything...until my gaze turned to my hand. When I heard another snap, I saw a bone within my ring finger break into two pieces, painlessly. I could no longer feel my hands. In fact...I couldn't feel anything. I could only watch as some of the bones continued to snap, and move into some sort of arrangement…with more joints than the average human. When the bones began to make popping noises, I finally realized that whatever was behind this planned to transform me into some alternate form. I tried to move, but my body no longer obeyed me…
Something was happening to me. Something unknown. Something horrifying.
I was terrified. I never should have touched that feather…never should have gone there…look where it got me…
As the bones popped more slowly into their new places, I began to wonder how this happened, and what means it meant to achieve. Surely a human with extra joints was not going to achieve much more than a few keyboard typing contests…
or so I thought.
Something appeared on the back of my hand. At first, I thought it was hair, but then I realized it was fur…with a vanilla coloration.
No, no, this couldn't be! That feather…surely such a small thing could not transform me!
Regardless, the ends of my fingers began to ripple, and took on a smooth form, with an ebony black color. As the transformation continued, they began to look like…
…no…no, they were turning into talons! I viciously rebelled against the force binding my body, for I was not going to let my body turn into a heartless beast of destruction!
Although I struggled against the mental barrier, it was no use. I was severed from my body. And yet…I felt a presence. It was so familiar, and yet so foreign all at once. Whatever it was, it was trying to relax me, to keep me calm. I soon gave in to this, and decided to see where this chain of events would bring me.
Something was happening to me. Something confusing and incredible.
The fur continued to spread, coating my hands in the soft material. I looked upon it, almost eager to see the extent of the change. As my nails continued to thicken and grow into talons, they took on an ebony black color. Looking at them, shaped this way, just felt…normal.
I felt the palm of my hands changing now, so I turned my palms to my face to see.
My palms were thickening, turning into...were they paws? Yes…they were becoming almost like dog or cat paws. I waited, beginning to admire the changes so far. The talons were my favorite so far. They looked so smooth, and yet…so sharp...like I could cut through most things with ease!
After the paw-pads had formed, I felt my legs moving. I turned over on my back, and tried to see my legs. Just like before, the bones were breaking and rearranging, albeit more so. I suddenly realized that the arrangement my legs would take might rip the pants I was wearing—sadly, I realized this just seconds before I heard the ripping…
They were changing my legs drastically…into something like a backwards S-shape. Halfway down the lower half of my leg, just below the knee, they were bending backwards! Everywhere this change was taking place, the same vanilla fur from before was spreading in a wave of vanilla. I was confused as to how I would walk with that sort of leg shape, when I noticed something else: the transformation was giving my feet a complete overhaul. My toes shrank into my feet, and my feet began to widen, in a way that looked similar to a T Rex's foot, albeit slightly more narrow. Of course, my shoes were completely obliterated by this, but what did it matter? Would I really need them?
When the shaping was complete, three large toe-claws began to grow out from my feet. Now I understood; wider feet would help my balance. From the mere looks of them, I assumed that I could also kick down a door with frightening ease…
Something was happening to me. Something new and wonderful.
I thought I had become used to the process, when I felt a rather uncomfortable shift in my chest. I tried to cough, to see if that would help…but it didn't.
I couldn't breathe. I was gasping for air, but nothing happened. I clutched at my throat, about to black out…when wonderful, fresh air reached my lungs. I collapsed onto my belly again, panting and terrified. What the hell was that awful sensation? I felt as though my lungs had been removed…
I felt another twitching in my chest, and expected the same result…but nothing happened. It dawned on me that my organs were being changed to...better suit my future form. For all I know, the transformation might be adding or even removing some organs…
This repetition of twitching within my torso repeated for a while…and then I felt the wave of fur slowly making its way to my chest. Something told me I would want to lie on my back for this part…
I turned over, and watched as the fur progressively made its way up my arms and legs, underneath what little clothing I had remaining. I wasn't going to let my shirt be ruined, so I quickly removed my shirt, and tossed it aside. The fur coated my shoulders, my belly, and finally my chest area. I ran my new paws through the fur, delighting in how soft it was, when I heard a quiet, crackling noise. I moved my paw back to my side, and watched as some of the fur on my chest began to intertwine and crystalize! They were becoming a golden-orange color, and seemed to be changing into draconic chestplate-like scales. I watched as the scale formation spread from my chest down to my belly, and then between my legs.
I didn't expect anything odd to happen…down there…until I realized that something was missing. I fumbled with the zipper on my pants until I miraculously managed to unzip them, and kicked them off. I looked down…and knew that, although I was male, there was no longer 'proof' of that, if you know what I mean. Perhaps what I was turning into had no need for genitalia, but it didn't bother me. All I wondered was: is it finished?
I stood up, and looked at my changed body. My head was still the same, but that was not going to last long… I could already feel something in my head…I noticed a puddle of water nearby, just large enough for me to see my reflection in it. I went over, and rested on my knees once again, as I felt a splitting headache hit me as if it were a train. Within seconds, I was clutching at my head, growling in pain, begging for it to stop! I felt the fur proceed to my face, and watched in a mix of horror and interest as my face exploded into rounded, cream-colored muzzle. I sighed in relief as the headache went away shortly after…but this new muzzle of mine…it was a few inches in width, and rounded…you could say it resembled a parrot's beak, in a way, without the downward hook. I ran my paws along my muzzle, observing how it felt.
Would I ever get used to this? Or would it always be a fresh experience? I looked into the puddle for an answer, when something caught my eye— my eyes, in fact. They used to be a light brown, but now they were a sky blue. This confused me to no end. I closed my eyes and shook my head lightly, and then looked again. They were still blue, of course. I looked around…and realized that I could see colors so much clearer now. My eyes must have become more powerful. That wouldn't surprise me, seeing what else this transformation had done. I rubbed my eyes, and yawned lightly. When I did, I spotted something in my reflection; my teeth had turned into fangs! I opened my mouth—and felt a little bit of disappointment. My teeth may have turned into fangs….but quite an unimpressive number of them. From the number of teeth I had before, I now had only TWO fangs! With only one on each side, I felt as if I was robbed of the true form of…whatever this was…but…transforming people can't be choosers.
I looked around, and then at my new form, trying to figure out if anything was missing… my face, my body, my legs, my arms, my talons…everything looked fine, but…I felt like something was missing… I scratched my head, and ran my talons over…
My ears! That's it! They couldn't just remain human-shaped, could they? They had to be— er…whatever shape they needed to be for this…
Familiar with the process, I simply looked at my reflection, admiring the new appearance. I didn't care, at the moment, about returning my life to normal. I just wanted to get into this form as quickly as possible!
Something happened to me. Something unexpected and exciting.
I waited, almost painfully so, until the next mere hint of a change arrived. To my delight, within a minute, I felt my ears twitching, and I looked into the puddle at the transformation. My ears stretched out and became pointed, just before coating themselves in the same fur that was now all over my body. I ran a talon over them, and scratched behind them a bit; I was quite happy with how they felt.
And yet…my transformation still did not feel complete. Something was missing…but I wasn't sure what…
I sat down next to the puddle, thinking about what a furred creature usually had…let's see…ears, claws, fangs, tails…
A tail! I was missing a tail! I looked at my hind end, and indeed, I was missing a tail. Judging by my size, my tail was going to be immense…when it finally formed, anyway.
I was just waiting for the next change to occur, when something MOVED within me! I fell to my knees as what was left of my pants became increasingly tight. I started clawing at them, wanting to remove the extreme discomfort…
…and yet, when my tail exploded from the base of my spine, it proved to be unnecessary.
The hind end of my pants split all the way down, and what was left fell off. I felt an incredible relief as my tail (for what else could it be?) finally broke free. I sighed deeply, and look back at my tail.
As I expected, the new tail was rather long, about 3 feet long. In my sheer joy of looking at my new form, I noticed that my tail was wagging—even though I had no idea how to voluntarily control it.
I examined my body several times, to make sure the change was complete. I assumed it was, as I felt nothing else.
I looked around...and realized I didn't know what to do. I certainly couldn't go back to my old life like this, and I had no idea where else to go…
My ear twitched as I heard approaching footsteps. I was about to run and hide, when I somehow sensed that this presence was not here to harm me. I turned around, and thought that I was looking in a mirror for a moment.
Another creature, one with the same fur and scales as me, was staring right back at me, smiling. I noticed that its chest looked…feminine, if you understand what I mean. I felt a bit embarrassed, because it was the first thing that caught my eye.
I guess some things never change.
I stepped forward, wanting to ask this creature so many questions! I had scarcely opened my mouth to speak before she put a talon to her lips. She looked down at the ground in front of me, and the feather that had started all of this. And then…she spoke to me, in the calmest, most beautiful voice I had ever heard. It was so serene…almost angelic.
"So, you're the lucky one that found my feather…"
Her feather? Is that how she had found me so quickly? I opened my mouth to ask her a question, when I was again hushed. I remained quiet.
"I know you have questions, and they will be answered in time. For now, just let me look at you…"
She stepped towards me, and then walked in a small circle around me, examining my form. She seemed very interested, as she ran her talons across my wings and arms, commenting to me.
"Your wings are properly formed, arms are thick and strong, talons are okay, and your tail is long and fluffy." She then reached towards my muzzle.
I leaned back a bit, hesitant. I thought she was going to examine my teeth (or rather, almost complete lack thereof), but that was not the case. She placed her right paw on my muzzle, and I immediately became aware that I was blushing heavily.
She simply smiled at me. "And your muzzle is quite warm. That's normal."
I was thoroughly embarrassed. I'd just undergone a transformation into something completely unknown, and suddenly a female of the same kind was examining me rather…affectionately.
I was about to ask her why all this was necessary, when her lips met mine for a split second.
Even through all that fur, I must have looked like a cherry. I had gotten used to the kind and gentle physical exam, but a small, pecking kiss?
I actually stammered to just say ANYTHING, to just form a single word, but I seemed to have all but forgotten how to speak! So many thoughts were racing in my head, I was certain it was going to explode.
"You're going to be just fine. You'll make a great Flammie."
A…Flammie? Is that what I had become?
She began to walk away from me, giggling.
"Well, don't just stand there…come on. Follow me."
Unsure of what else to do, I followed her, looking back at the feather that I had found, HER feather, as I followed my new companion into the forest.
Something happened to me. Something unforgettable and beautiful.
And I will remember it for the rest of my life.
